@ruqayyah.maalik: In Gilgit-Baltistan, people don’t wait for glaciers. They marry them. Two pieces of ice one “male,” grey and full of debris; one “female,” white and clean. Thirty-five kilos each, carried two days on foot, never touching the ground. Buried together under mud, ash and stone. The village prays. That’s the wedding. Then ten years of waiting. If it holds, a glacier is born. One village still drinks from a wedding held 150 years ago. Five hundred households farm on that water. It’s called Manawar.
