I like to include trip cost breakdowns on my IG carousel recap posts but it was fun to do a closer look at the daily stats :) (we can collectively ignore the fact that the end total should technically be $88 for the incorrect hostel number) For an entire month in Patagonia I spent… $2,312 This number is a little skewed because for the first week I was hosting a group trip where my costs were just food and tips (we did eat out for many meals). I’ve also spent multiple nights tent camping in the mountains and brought freeze dried meals from the states. But here’s a category breakdown: Accommodation: $776 Eating out: $634 Grocery: $456 Transportation: $120 Misc: $326 I’ve paid for almost everything on my Amex card and exchange rates have changed slightly across the weeks. I did bring cash and exchanged that at a Western Union in Calafate, but have only needed it for a few things here and there. Nearly every place accepts card. A few years ago I had the light bulb moment that travel doesn’t have to be as expensive as I’d always thought (mostly because I was just referring to it as vacationing). In fact, I typically spend less abroad per month than I do living in the states. Now this doesn’t always include flights as those can be the most expensive part. A round trip to and from Patagonia from the states can easily be $2k. I’ll be spending a bit of time back in the Chilean Patagonia side, so I can compare prices. Then I’m off to Buenos Aires for some tattoos :) THANK YOU to everyone who sent in recs!! I’m putting them all in a list to share! #solofemaletraveler #solotravel #budgettraveling #travelpatagonia
