Every decision you wish you could take back. Every part of your story that other people may use to define you. And still, He says, “Follow Me.” That’s what makes the scene of Jesus calling Matthew so powerful. Jesus didn’t call Matthew because He was unaware of his past. He called him knowing exactly who he was. Peter saw a tax collector. Others saw a traitor. Jesus saw someone worth calling. Sometimes people will struggle to understand why God is working in your life. They may remember the version of you that God is transforming. They may keep bringing up the chapter that God is already turning the page on. But your past does not surprise Jesus. When He calls you, He isn’t asking everyone else for permission. He isn’t waiting for you to become perfect first. His invitation is simple: Follow Me. And when Jesus calls you forward, don’t let the voices behind you convince you to stay where you were. You are more than the worst thing you’ve done. You are more than the labels people have placed on you. You are more than the person you used to be.
