the best method is to go to the first island and buy a bunch of beer cans and get the beer lure then barely cast your line and as soon as you catch the crab drop it then snipe it in the head insta kill

I would just use the crab rod and hotdogs find the ledge of the water and just spam right click till u get it, if you find the right edge you catch a new crab every like half second and if u just keep going you get tons of crabs but the spider crab is the move

use the small fishing rod and you don't have to reel it just sits at the bottom and catches and you don't have as long as a reel in time
