@polonopedia: LOT Polish Airlines was founded on 29 December 1928, making it one of the oldest carriers still flying 🇵🇱. As of February 2026 it operated 90 aircraft on 97 routes across four continents ✈️. Becoming an airline captain in Poland is a long process. The Civil Aviation Authority issued 368 new commercial pilot licences and 157 new airline transport pilot licences in 2025, and only 1,861 valid ATPL holders existed in the country on 31 December 2025, of whom 74 were women 👨✈️. The reputation goes back further. Polish airmen formed the largest foreign contingent in the Battle of Britain, and No. 303 Squadron destroyed 126 German aircraft in 42 days, the best result of any RAF unit. Franciszek Żwirko and Stanisław Wigura won the Challenge 1932 contest in Berlin on 28 August, a date now marked as Polish Aviation Day 🏆. Follow @polonopedia for more!
