And the classic formula is preserved with methylisothiazolinone (MI) — a preservative the EU restricted in leave-on products like creams after a spike in allergic reactions. European formulas had to reformulate it out. In the US, it's still allowed, so the version on an American shelf can still contain it. Here's the bigger picture: the EU bans ingredients on suspicion of harm and makes companies prove they're safe first. The US waits until an ingredient is proven harmful. That's how the same product — even from a European company — can be two different formulas depending on which country you're in.
