@studyworkuk: 🇬🇧 Career advice I wish I had as soon as I moved to the UK for my MSc 1. Start job hunting BEFORE graduation. Don’t wait until your final semester to discover how competitive the UK job market is. 2. Your MSc is not a career plan. Know what roles you’re targeting before you finish the degree. 3. Stop thinking your overseas experience doesn’t count. Learn how to translate it into UK employer language. 4. Don’t apply for everything. Pick specific job titles, industries and employers where your profile actually makes sense. 5. Learn UK recruitment early. CVs, supporting statements, person specifications, competency questions and interviews all matter. 6. Network before you need a job. The people you meet during your MSc can become colleagues, mentors, referees or your route into opportunities. 7. Don’t automatically take the first survival job and stay there. If you need it, take it. Pay your bills. But keep building towards the career you actually want. 8. If you need sponsorship, start researching it early. Don’t wait until your visa is running out to discover which employers and occupations are realistic targets. 9. Use your university properly. Careers services, lecturers, alumni, careers fairs, employer events and industry connections are resources — use them. 10. Your first UK job doesn’t need to be your dream job. But it should ideally give you skills, UK experience, credibility or connections that move you closer to it. The biggest thing I’d tell myself: Don’t spend £20K+ getting a UK education and then leave your career to chance. Your MSc is the investment.
