Come have lunch with me while I talk about something I’ve been struggling with a little during this journey. 🩷 I get comments pretty regularly about how much our boys must be learning about money by watching us work through this debt payoff journey — and I LOVE the thought of that. But if I’m being completely transparent…sometimes those comments make me feel a little bit like an imposter. Because inside our house, it doesn’t always feel like these huge financial lessons are clicking yet. They’re still kids. They still want the thing NOW. They still don’t quite understand why having money for one part of something doesn’t mean we have unlimited money for ALL of it. And sometimes “we didn’t budget for that” is met with a very logical (to them 😂), “well…why can’t you just buy it?” And maybe that’s normal. Maybe at 3, 5, 6 and 8, the lesson isn’t that they fully understand budgeting, debt, delayed gratification, or the value of a dollar yet. Maybe right now our job is just to keep having the conversations. To explain why we wait. Why we save. Why we make choices. Why Mom and Dad can technically have the money for something and still choose not to spend it. I don’t know yet how much of this journey they’ll actually remember. But I really hope that somewhere along the way, these little conversations add up — and they enter adulthood understanding money a little better than we did. 🩷 #debtpayoffjourney #DebtFreeJourney #financialliteracy #kidsandmoney #financialliteracyforkids
