@ultrasoundscoop19: Can’t find the appendix? Start with the landmarks! 🔍 Locate the cecum, psoas muscle and right iliac vessels, then use slow graded compression to displace bowel gas and move compressible bowel loops. You’re looking for a structure that is: ✓ Blind-ending ✓ Nonperistalsing ✓ Connected to the cecum ✓ Usually compressible when normal ✓ Typically 6 mm or less outer wall to outer wall When appendicitis is suspected, look for noncompressibility, enlargement, wall thickening, hyperemia, echogenic surrounding fat, an appendicolith and periappendiceal fluid. Most importantly, follow the entire appendix—from the base to the blind-ending tip. Remember: a nonvisualized appendix does not automatically mean a normal appendix.
