No momma, you’re not the reason she has it, you’re the reason she’s a happy thriving little girl. ITS NOT YOUR FAULT!!! You created a beautiful human, you’ve created a happy healthy safe environment for her and are her biggest advocate. Don’t blame yourself remember how awesome you are

The hematologist will most likely will dismiss you, they saw my daughter once then dismissed us. 2 of my children have the beta thalassemia 2 don’t.

Are you sure that you’re the carrier? Shouldn’t you & Curtis be tested before testing the girls?

April Godwin :
If the older girls are negative for it would that mean Curtis could be the carrier?

My husband and I are both carriers. The doctors were surprised because they said it’s not as common for his race. We found out while pregnant with little Anthony when we did our NIPT testing. It scared us and we thought he wouldn’t make it. Further testing revealed we’re silent carriers so the “safer” kind. Anemia, iron deficiency, and my daughter has really difficult periods. Other than that, we just have to watch out when our children have children because if someone they have a child with is a carrier, it’s possible they have the more severe and dangerous one.

I see the anxiety. Valid. Feel it…but also… YOU advocated for her…and provided such a nurturing, healthy diet, she’s OK..phew, mama. Protecting future grandbabies potentially! Super mom!! Xo

You’re not the reason she has it! You’re the reason it’s caught and it’s being treated ❤️now as she grows older, starts her own family, she knows to go ahead and tell her drs so they can be aware! You just made sure your blood line is aware for generations! That’s amazing mama

In case you were curious why they’re in the same building: they also work with bone marrow which we use here in the pathology department for biopsies!

My daughter is 30 she had Beta Thallasemia trait. She was diagnosed at 4 y:o she had to be monitored yearly and now by the Hematologist. Since she was young when she gets sick her Hemoglobin drops lower. She just never be given iron with this., With the exception; pregnancy. My daughter just had a baby 3 weeks ago, she did have to take iron because of pregnancy. Her HGB was 7.4. It went up to 8.3 and mom and baby both doing great!!
