@musicmomentshisto: Alex Turner was just 17 years old when the Arctic Monkeys were starting out, and within a couple of years, the songs he was writing as a teenager had completely changed his life. “I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor” became the band’s first UK No. 1 single in October 2005, helping turn a Sheffield band who had built their following through demos and word of mouth into one of Britain’s biggest new acts. Then came the record-breaking debut album, Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not. Released in January 2006, it sold 363,735 copies in its first week, becoming the fastest-selling debut album in UK history at the time — a record previously held by Hear’Say. The album went on to win the 2006 Mercury Prize and Best British Album at the 2007 BRIT Awards, while the band picked up the BRIT for Best British Group too. And it all started with songs like this. A 17-year-old Alex Turner writing songs that would change his life — and British guitar music with it. #ArcticMonkeys #AlexTurner #Fyp #IndieRock #MusicHistory

What’s even more irritating is that he’d only started playing guitar and writing music 6 months earlier

How the record labels ruin people. This was raw and awesome. Never seen a band change so much. Well, maybe Kings of Leon.
