it's only illegal if you get caught. in the states since it's not a full carcass you could take it to a fishery and they'd log it and probably let you take it if it's not endangered. looks like you might be on the UK so my best guess is those are the queens bones.

I still regret not taking anything from a whale I found last year, it also had a raven inside the chest cavity and I just can’t understand why I didn’t take the skull.
