Batch?!? I think you’ll find it’s neither a barm or a batch - in priority order it could be: a roll, a bun, a cob (if a firmer or homemade one, artisanal vibes), a bap (if bought from the local caf, to go with a builders tea and HAS to be stuffed with bacon). A barm is acceptable- but only when in the north/ north midlands (Derby/ Nottingham and up). Weird to call it a bread cake (looking at you in the comments 😂)… but a batch sounds INEDIBLE. Tea cake it is NOT as that is a sweet bun with currants/ raisins, best served sliced through the middle horizontally, and toasted with a generous scrape of melting, lightly salted butter to be accompanied by (you guessed it) a proper builders tea. And the latest gossip from a mates neighbours most recent goings on 😂
