When attorneys use their platform to post misleading or flat-out incorrect information about what police officers can and cannot legally do, it’s more than irresponsible—it can have real consequences. People watch these videos, believe they understand the law, and then try to apply that “advice” during an actual police encounter. The result? They may escalate a situation, refuse lawful commands, interfere with an investigation, or otherwise get themselves into legal trouble because they trusted someone presenting themselves as a legal authority. And who profits when people get arrested and need representation? Law firms. I’m exposing this because attorneys should be held to a higher professional standard. If a lawyer is knowingly or recklessly spreading false legal information, that conduct deserves scrutiny and, where appropriate, a complaint to the state bar or other attorney-disciplinary authority. Social media has created an entire industry around outrage, anti-police content, and telling people what they want to hear instead of what the law actually says. Know your rights—but know the REAL law. Don’t gamble your freedom on a viral video.
