As a childless, forever single woman, I talk about my experiences with psychosis publicly, because I know I am in a position where I won't be harmed by that in any way I cannot handle. I do it because it's so important to me to raise awareness about mental illness, especially for the women who aren't able to discuss their experiences themselves, because it will be used against them. It's genuinely vile that people just use a woman's mental health as an excuse to harm her and destroy her life and family. It just goes in a circle—the more women are silenced, the more mental illness (especially ones related to the postpartum period) is stigmatised and demonised, allowing even more women to be silenced, going around and around forever.

I just saw a video where a woman was talking about her postpartum anxiety, the comments were saying they were going to contact CPS on her. Her video was about being overly scared about tripping while holding her new baby, nothing about hurting herself or her child intentionally.

It makes me so sad because I made a comment that this will be a historical turning point where women can openly share their dark moments (and I shared my own of not being able to go into the kitchen because I was scared of seeing the knives and self deleting) and hoped that a silver lining of this would be the more momentum we give this the more seriously people take women’s mental health. But I posted that comment as a woman from Australia. I didn’t even fathom about how women in America would go backwards because of this case

It’s crazy how this whole case could be seen as a sign that woman need better mental care postpartum, and that mental healthcare should be more easily accessible and affordable for not just woman but everyone in society. Instead it’s being demonized and used against them….
