you have a deeply deeply wrong understanding of statistics or the point of it. it's not for the indivual to go "huh I guess I shouldn't improve myself and try to achieve something great because only 1% have done it". it's there to use in PREDICTIVE, historical and risk/reward or safety situations. statistics are a tool used to help give an overview of a given thing.

heavy cope to be honest, this idea exist in the opposite way too , if there's a 0.1% chance statistically for a person to become a pro runner, and I have no legs with no mitigation that becomes 0% to me. no one in this world who creates statistics argue that statistics merely show the probability of an outcome , it shows the probability of a multitude variables being fulfilled which then results/allows an outcome , unfortunately some of the variables aren't decided by you.

when someone tells me they "don't believe in statistics", immediately stop listening. and btw statistics doesnt determine the outcome, it describes the past and estimates the future. of course the lottery winner will tell you it was easy buying the ticket, but you can't comprehend the millions who didn't win.

"I don't believe in statstics". You don't believe in general statistics then (which aren't that useless by the way). There are very specified statistics used by - for example - by scientist. I know you know this, but take in account there people here on tiktok who just hear you say "all statistics bad and useless - never believe them" and they go with that tought into the world spreading misinformation.

A household rule for my kids: avoid the word "can't". I encourage them to use "I haven't figured out how to yet..." or "I'm having trouble with..." etc. As long as there is a non 0% chance that something can be done - it can be done. Even then, maybe its just that someone hasn't figured it out yet.

100%. Statistics are incredibly useful and also incredibly unable to capture the unpredictability of being human. The fear of Type I errors massively limits both thought and potential and shaves off individual nuance for safe and predictable population means. This is the pervasive effect it has in so much human consciousness. It’s also damaging to any possible placebo effects because placebo relies on being statistically improbable to work
