@thecarriemariev: Such sad news today. 💔 Dolly Parton was truly one of a kind. She embraced exactly who she was, showed up unapologetically as herself, and used her gifts, success, generosity, and unmistakable Dolly flair to make the world a little brighter. And she didn’t just talk about knowing who you are and living with purpose. She lived it. She touched millions of lives through her music, of course, but also through her incredible generosity and the many ways she quietly and not-so-quietly gave back and helped others. She was a beautiful example of what can happen when you stop trying to fit someone else’s mold and instead fully step into who YOU were created to be. I remember hearing her music from the time I was a little girl because my great-grandpa was a big fan. One of my funniest memories is visiting him in the hospital after surgery and seeing a Dolly Parton impersonator someone had hired to come sing to him… complete with balloons stuffed into her dress to make sure she had the full Dolly effect. 😂 I was little, but apparently that memory was destined to stick! Today, though, I keep coming back to those words of hers. “Find out who you are and do it on purpose.” Maybe one of the greatest ways we can honor a life like Dolly’s is to do exactly that. Stop shrinking yourself. Stop waiting for permission. Stop spending your life trying to become who everyone else thinks you should be. Figure out who you are. Use the gifts you’ve been given. Love people well. Help where you can. Let yourself be seen. And live this one precious life on purpose. Because there will never be another Dolly Parton.
