@litemindedtherapy: FOR CONTEXT: this isn’t about blaming people for what happened to them, minimizing trauma, or pretending everyone has equal freedom in every situation. There are many times when a person’s options are genuinely constrained by abuse, coercion, finances, safety, discrimination, illness, or dependence. And trauma itself can make choice feel much less accessible by shaping what the nervous system expects, what feels dangerous, and what a person believes they’re capable of tolerating. The distinction I’m interested in is what happens when powerlessness becomes a lens that persists even when some agency has returned! Sometimes protecting the belief that “there’s nothing I can do” also protects us from grief, conflict, guilt, uncertainty, or the possibility of making a choice we might regret. Reclaiming agency doesn’t mean deciding you caused your pain. It means getting curious about where your influence exists now (even if the available choices are imperfect, uncomfortable, or much smaller than you wish they were.) #learnedhelplessness #traumatok #relationshippatterns #therapytok #psychology

I have a hard time between this and being absolutely real and make plans and budget and possible plan a, b and c but then i realize non of them are actually good options, due to the risk of making things worse. Bringing this topic up in my next therapy session for sureeee. Ty for sharing! ❤️❤️❤️

I occasionally feel uncomfortable moving into bigger success without permission. I don't like it but it's real

meanwhile, my psych: you always have agency! // me: right so I think I just used said agency to make a dumb choice like choosing to do therapy expensively with you and privately when rationally this doesn't look like prudent spending in-between jobs. (HELLPPPP) - I mean, I know why I chose to do what I did and to some extent it's the most sensible one in the longer term for my MH. but financially at this point it could get a lot of judgment and that fcking scares me.
