I work in a hospital, but even now, I still can't bring myself to walk into an ICU. The memories are too painful. I remember begging the doctors to save my mum, hoping for a miracle even when I knew things weren't looking good. I kept telling everyone around me that she would be okay, trying to stay strong for my family. But every time I couldn't hold it together anymore, I'd quietly lock myself in the hospital toilet and cry where no one could see me. Then came the moment that changed my life forever. The doctor looked at us and said they had tried everything they could, but they couldn't save her. I remember going completely numb. It didn't feel real. It felt like I was trapped in a nightmare that I would wake up from at any moment. I went in to see my mum one last time. I cried harder than I ever thought was possible and told her how much I loved her. I promised her that I would look after my sister. Before they turned off the ventilator, I asked the nurse to leave it on for just a little longer because I wanted to feel her body moving one last time. I wasn't ready for the moment when she would no longer move, when all that was left was silence. Walking out of those hospital doors at 5 a.m. without my mum was the hardest walk of my life. We had gone to the hospital together, but I was leaving without her. That feeling is something I will never be able to put into words. For the next three months, I lived in disbelief. Deep down, I still expected her to come home. It didn't feel real that she was gone. It took months before my heart could even begin to accept what my mind already knew that she wasn't coming back. That was the most heartbreaking experience of my life, and it's a pain I wouldn't wish on anyone. No one should ever have to say goodbye to the person they love that way. #MissingYouMum #fyp #GriefAndHealing #GrievingDaughter #MotherlessDaughters
