The all-new 2026 Mazda CX-5 is completely redesigned and is much larger, fixing the biggest struggle for the previous generation: rear passenger space. It is now at the top of the class and I especially love the larger rear footwell. Despite the new platform, Mazda is keeping the same 2.5L 4-cylinder and 6-speed automatic that made its debut in the 2014 CX-5 where it’s gained just 3 horsepower since then. Considering the notable jump in size and weight, we would have loved to see the turbo stick around. Unlike the CX-50 that borrows the RAV4 hybrid’s powertrain, the CX-5 will sport an in-house hybrid system for 2027 and can’t come soon enough! Inside, the CX-5 takes a completely new interior approach, replacing the rotary dial and physical climate controls with on-screen controls. The much-larger touchscreens offer a clean, minimalist dash but this decision can be frustrating at times. At least the software though is a huge step forward. One of the favorable upgrades are the seats. Mazda was known for having some of the hardest seats in the industry but these are now among the best, with the ventilated seats being exceptional.
