IT'S DANGEROUS: Speaking during an interview on Arise News, ADC Chieftain Dino Melaye discussed the political atmosphere in northern Nigeria and the way some governors are approaching the question of supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the next general election, noting that public political messaging in the region appears to be carefully managed by some political leaders. Melaye said he questioned whether any governor in the northern part of the country would openly campaign for Tinubu and directly ask residents to support the President, suggesting that political leaders in the region may be considering the reactions that could follow such an open declaration while continuing their political activities. He explained that he had observed several branded vehicles associated with some northern governors, but noted that the vehicles did not carry the President's picture alongside those of the governors, adding that this appeared to reflect the way political communication is being handled by some leaders as they engage with their constituents and supporters. In Melaye's words: “Can any governor in the North today go and campaign and tell the people that they should vote for Tinubu? As I'm speaking with you, I've seen many branded vehicles of some of the governors without the picture of the President on them because they know it is very dangerous for them to put his picture alongside their pictures or go to podiums and begin to ask that the North should vote for Tinubu.”
