The eastern copperhead is a venomous pit viper common in the eastern United States, known for its copper-colored head and Hershey kisses pattern, providing excellent camouflage in forests and rocky areas. While responsible for many bites, their venom is relatively mild and rarely fatal to humans, causing pain, swelling, and tissue damage, but fatalities are extremely rare. They are ambush predators, active at dawn, dusk, and night, and play a key role in controlling rodent populations. Habitat and Behavior Habitat: Found in forests, rocky hillsides, old fields, and near wetlands, often hiding in leaf litter, logs, and rock piles.
