But Matale is one of the most underrated cities in Sri Lanka, and I couldn't let it go without its own moment. Better late than never, right? So why Matale? 🏛️ History runs deep here. Aluvihara is where the Buddhist teachings (the Tripitaka) were first written down on ola leaves, over 2,000 years ago. And Veera Puran Appu, the hero of the 1848 rebellion, is remembered right in the middle of our streets. 🕌⛪🛕 Faith lives side by side. Temple, kovil, mosque, and church, all within minutes of each other. That's the real Matale story. 🌿 This is spice country. Matale's spice gardens are known across the world for cinnamon, pepper, cardamom, and more. Visitors come just to see, smell, and taste it. ⛰️ Nature is right next door. Mountain views, misty mornings, paddy fields that glow at golden hour, and easy access to the Knuckles range, plus Sigiriya and Dambulla nearby in the district. 🏏 And the people? Early-morning joggers, weekend games, kids at the park with our very own dinosaur. Matale is a city that shows up every single day.
