where it isn't your problem, as a business owner this is bizarre. You're basically handing off your clients to someone else. You do deserve rest, but there are other ways to address this that makes it a win win for both sides.

You are 100% correct. And this is something I personally struggle with which is probably why I was back to work two weeks after surgery on my spine. 😬

I personally would hire someone to be my sub so that I didn’t lose all of my business and the families wouldn’t lose their childcare. But that’s me.

Personally, if my provider closed for 12 weeks, I'd find a new provider. It's your business to run how you want. But if you aren't providing a sub, you need to be prepared to lose most of your families

I've had 2 separate home daycare providers go on maternity leave. One, I really liked and was able to piece together coverage and make it work until her return. The other was fine, safe, nothing special, and I ended up finding another full time spot elsewhere when looking for options while she was closed. In my area, there are waitlists everywhere! So as long as you have decent references, you can fill a vacancy within 2 weeks and it's nothing to lose sleep over if a family needs to pivot to make it work.

I totally get that! I wouldn’t expect it to be your responsibility. I was more so just asking if they’ve shared their plans so I could get some ideas myself haha (as a parent/family of an in home center). I’m sure people have creative ideas I haven’t thought of. I wasn’t saying it’s your job to know or keep tabs on it!

My children went to an in home sitter. There were definitely times it was inconvenient when we had to find other childcare for days she had to be off, but I wouldn’t trade the years my kids were with her for anything at all. My kids were loved and cared for daily, and I never had to worry when I was away with them. My kids are now 12 and 6 and she still attends our major events.

i agree not my problem 🤷♀️i don’t expect them to return after my closure, if they plan to that’s great, but what they need to do for their family is what they will do, just like i am doing what is needed for my family, which is taking time off.

When i used a in-home daycare I registered with a center also that allowed drop-ins and on the few occasions my in-home provider was sick, I called up the back up and my son went there. It was definitely not something that I expected Ms. Shelly to figure out!

I mean you’re lowkey right…. My son’s preschool is year round but they have their off weeks & days and I have to figure it out. If you’re year round then I think it’s like the same thing shutting down for summer like you said. Or counting Christmas break too. It’s just something I’d have to figure out with my husband and make it work

I command you for thinking this way I have done childcare for 33 years and I always felt guilty for even taking off a week. Financially, if you are able to take off, this is the best thing for you and the baby. I was thinking if I was the one that was pregnant, I would want to go back because I wouldn’t want to lose my families and rebuild my whole childcare all over again with maybe only one or two families staying with me due to being off 12 weeks. I am so happy for you that you are able to think that way and financially able to do that.
