@nukingstreet: Two bald-faced hornet nests. One tree. This customer got the two-for-one special today. One of these nests was especially concerning because it was hanging close to the sidewalk in front of the house. Anyone walking by, doing yard work, trimming branches, or simply getting too close could have disturbed the colony without realizing what was above them. Bald-faced hornets are extremely defensive around their nests. Unlike many solitary wasps, they live in colonies and will aggressively protect their home when they perceive a threat. By late summer, those colonies can contain a significant number of hornets. Finding one nest is reason to pay attention. Finding two active bald-faced hornet nests in the same tree definitely gets our attention. We were able to take care of both nests and eliminate the hazard before a homeowner, neighbor, landscaper, delivery driver, or someone walking down the sidewalk got stung by accident. If you find a bald-faced hornet, yellow jacket, or wasp nest around your property, keep your distance and give us a call.
