@jlbarnshaw: Responsibility without authority at work. Held accountable for decisions you were not allowed to make. How to push back on a boss who offloads the risk. Bad Boss Playbook and workplace leadership. #BadBosses #WorkplaceLeadership #ManagingUp #Leadership #CareerAdvice
Talk about being laid off reactions, I did a perfect poker face with a cold gaze and the managers were pissed off. I mean they achieved the part of laying someone off and I don’t understand what they expected from me?

They want results without the pain: process, clarity, holding people accountable, etc

I got a note to file today. For not doing my job. But I’ve been covering. Every other job. And filling in gaps 😭. Meaning I have maybe 30 mins extra for my actual position I feel like I’m tweaking. Cuz I help in areas asked. That aren’t my area 😭😭😭😭😭

I've had a boss like this. he wouldn't listen to the experience of his team. on several occasions he came up with a less than stellar plan. the team told him that if we proceed as is, x,y and z would happen. he refused to tweak the plan and proceeded to get furious when x,y and z happened.

this is EXACTLY why i stepped down from my "leadership" role. All of the responsibility none of the authority or support to make decisions on my own.

I crashed out at my second job over this, I was the most competent but never given a role yet I was ridiculed for everyone else’s code quality including a senior. I made it clear to them I’m not taking on anything without compensation. They asked me if this was just about position and I said, YES IT IS!!

See that last part about not being held responsible if it goes belly-up because they won’t let you make changes? Get it in writing. They’ll agree verbally and then have "amnesia." Best to decline.

You should investigate this one. So my boss when I asked for help because I felt a little overwhelmed. Decided after reviewing her metrics that she wants to get to the root cause for why my performance is down. Her exact quote work more overtime and do this time study for a week. Not one bit of help has been provided.

I will only get thrown under the bus 1 time and I will take the full blame with my full chest (1 TIME). If they want to micromanage me they 💯 can and so far I haven't come across a problem I haven't been able to fix but I'm not taking responsibility for any else's actions and I keep receipts just in case something does go wrong. That is not a leader...its a person in the wrong position.
