I taught AP US Government and Politics and also the "regular" US Government (what you're calling "on level). I remember a particular parent conference where I told a father that his son, who was in my regular Government class, should be in my AP course. That father told me that we would rather have him in the regular class making an A, than in my AP class making a B. Even though we used a weighted GPA system in which a B in my AP course counted the same as an A in my regular class. Dad then said what he really wanted was an Honors class that would also be part of the weighted system. My response was to say that what was a dumbed down AP course. I said I wouldn't teach such a course. He should be challenging his son.

We offer super slow pace that is considered standard, an average pace/workload that is considered advanced, and honors classes. All subjects offer AP options at some point but not every year. Small handful of dual enrollment.

I fought hard to keep honor world history 10 years ago. When I got here there was AP Human geography so a Freshmen only had the option for Geography to take on level or AP and most freshmen are not prepared for AP. Obviously no one listened to me which was a lesson I should have learned 10 years ago and did not

New Jersey has CP then Honors then AP CP is regular, a lot of people take honors if they are involved in activities and a few AP‘s if you don’t have activities then you take all AP‘s

And this is where my sophomore got screwed this year. Because they either have regular track or aice for every single class she needs since she’s already seven credits ahead due to where she went to middle school. It was either take 5AICE classes and AP classes or be placed in a bunch of electives.
