they started OBD2 in ‘90. my daily is an ‘89 with OBD1, but my ‘90 parts car has OBD2🫡

I took my 2014 to 4 different shops last week because my Catalytic converter was clogged. I could fix it myself, I just didnt have a Jack or jackstands. Every single shop said 'if your car isnt throwing a code, we cant help you'. These young mechanics are literally crippled without their computer and can't diagnose a damn thing without a pc telling them. My dad is 67yo and is still a mechanic. He had me come to the house and replaced my timing belt in the garage years ago because he could hear that my timing was off over the phone. They dont make them like him anymore.

Can you not use a Euro adapter and a snapon scan tool? I've used that on OBDI BMWs.
