Eliana Pozzi :
Blaming the patient… blaming the mental health patient… blaming a post partum mother of 3 for not properly identifying or minimizing their symptoms (hallucinations) is beyond negligent. It is literally the job of the psychiatrist/ psychologist to read between the lines and find the missing pieces, ask the right questions, make hypothesis and try to answer them, it is what they studied for and what they get paid for. It is not the patient’s job to layout their whole list of signs and symptoms, hell, I’m a psychologist, and until this day I keep discovering things I do, say, think that what do you know? They’re not normal, and they are indeed yet another sign of autism and/or adhd. This is fucking ridiculous and every day i get more and more upset because It seems to me that the defense doesn’t have a solid and comprehensive description of what depression, psychosis, bipolar 1 vs 2, mania vs hypomania, anxiety, hallucinations, medical postpartum vs psychological postpartum (not once has this been mentioned btw), suicidal ideation, role of hormonal changes during post partum, the adding of meds to this mix, AND how all these present differently in women than men (postpartum aside obviously) and the DSM like every other medical manual has been fully based on each disorder’s presentation in men, white men at that. So, sure, let’s blame the woman that hasn’t slept in 5 years, takes care of 3 kids, has a useless husband, an 8 month old, anxiety, is depressed but still managed to drag her ass to get help, let’s go ahead and blame her for not being specific enough in her description of her psychotic symptoms…
