I have a suggestion that might work depending on which relative you’re living with and exactly what their living situation is. (this will not work for a city apartment) Instead of full-time living in a van, you might want to look at a trailer that you can park on your relative’s property (if they have any land whatsoever). I would recommend buying a very good condition used one but new is an option depending on your finances. Other than the trailer and a physical space to put it, you will need an electrical hook up. (I recommend 50 amp because it can be adapted to 30 amp and an added feature (EV charge point) if the house is ever sold), water hook up (hose connection, the house probably already has one), and some way to pipe into your sewer/septic. depending on your Climate, you might need a few more items in the winter (such as a heated water hose, holding tank heat pads, ect), but once everything is in place and a rental agreement is made life becomes pretty damn cheap. I am doing this exact thing myself at the moment and it’s working out exactly as planned. I also added the electrical hookup myself to save money. (don’t do that if you don’t know what you’re doing) I also have a van that I built out myself for travel and furry conventions.

I used to live in my tiny little Toyota mr2 back in 2020 (sounds back as you think) and what I was able to do was get permission from this guy off Craigslist to let me park my car on his property until I could perk myself back up

I would also like to point out that camper vans and other forms of RVs (depending on the make, model and model year) are very expensive to buy. Like for example the VW California is around £75,000 ($102,200) and that’s for a model that’s on the smaller side. Anything bigger than that and you’re looking at a six figure price tag at the minimum. Also on some smaller models you have a sofa bed to sleep on, a separate sleeping area is usually an optional extra.
