@nyc.mom: I’m all ears. Am I right or wrong assuming a non profit would help facilitate an adoption? When I spoke to a rescue about the woman I met who wanted to rehome her dog - they asked for all the paperwork and to make sure my foster application is up to date. I was clear I would like to foster the dog. They in turn called the owner to let them know I was ‘using’ them. I thought it was the right thing to do. Am I completely mistaken? #dog #rescue #adoption #foster #grief
I think what the rescue was thinking is …you were looking for free vet care for a dog you were taking from a rehome situation. The lady rehoming and you wanting to adopt the dog should be the only parties involved. Rescues have resources to find homes for unwanted, homeless pets. Fosters volunteer for rescues to provide a soft place for the pets to land until they find an adopter. Rescues are at their breaking point, strays and pets in dire situations are priority.

Adopt or foster? You said you would pay the adoption fee which means adopt the dog. So they thought you wanted to pay a lower price for adoption than what the vet bills would be for them. A foster doesn’t adopt the dog. A foster just takes care of the dog while it’s waiting for a forever home. Maybe this is where the confusion was. Are you just fostering this puppy? Or are you keeping this puppy?

You were confused 🤔, I’m completely confused as to what you were trying to explain. Do appreciate that you are fostering dogs and keeping them out of shelters!!❤️

You are simply trying to help and most rescues want a foster. And that rescue should’ve been thankful that you were doing this! Because there is not enough fosters for all the animals that are in need. Thank you for what you’re doing!

Call another rescue. There are plenty that will help especially if you are willing to foster her.

That is not how it works. You pick an organization and then foster. It does sound like vetting to them and they need to be careful but your heart was in the right place

First you have to be vetted by the rescue. Once they allow you to foster you choose the dog you want to foster

I did exactly this a few months back. I was going to pick up the dog either way. I was vetted by the rescue. Find a different rescue to work with.

This is the hardest time of year for rescues and shelters. Sounds like the rescue thought you were using them for vetting. They should have had a more in depth convo with you.
