@gabbettfamilytravels: Genuinely one of the most beautiful places we’ve ever seen! 📍 This is Belogradchik Fortress in northwestern Bulgaria, built directly into red sandstone rock formations that are over 200 million years old and were even shortlisted as a candidate for the New 7 Wonders of Nature. 🏰The fortress itself dates back to Roman times and was expanded over the centuries by the Byzantines, Bulgarians, and Ottomans — so you're walking through layers of history built right into the rock. 🪨 Every formation up there has its own legend too — there's the Madonna, the Schoolgirl, the Monks, even Adam and Eve — each one named for a shape locals swear they can see in the stone. 💵 Entry is just a few dollars, and when we visited, we didn't see another person the entire time. No lines, no crowds, just us and one of the most surreal landscapes we've ever stood in. 🇧🇬 Bulgaria is genuinely one of the most underrated countries we've traveled through — insanely affordable, incredible history, and barely any tourists compared to the rest of Europe.
