tips for budget traveling 👇🏼 ✨accommodation✨ Hostels and guesthouses are my go-tos. I’ve stayed in over 30 different hostels and book 99% of them through @Hostelworld . ALWAYS check reviews!! In areas of SE Asia where hostels don’t exist or are too expensive, I look to book guesthouses through @agoda or @Booking.com . I have met some of the kindest guesthouse owners who treat you like a member of their own family and it truly makes for a memorable experience. ✨transportation✨ I’m a big fan of using public transportation when it’s available. I have used 12go.asia and the Traveloka app to book! Or I book tickets in person. ✨food✨ Don’t be afraid to try the local restaurants and street food!! I have heard more stories of travelers getting sick from the “western” restaurants vs local establishments…just use your best judgement :) ✨activities✨ There are typically so many things you can go do for free or minimal price!! I’m not hating on guided tours - I’ve had some amazing experiences with those and have had great conversations with local guides. BUT if you’re on a really tight budget, you can go look up the tour schedules online and go do it all yourself via bike rental, local transportation, or walking. ✨flights✨ Depending on how ambitious I’m feeling, I like to string together the cheapest route I can find. For example - to get from Denver to the Philippines I used @Southwest Airlines points for an individual flight from Denver to LAX, found a cheap flight from LAX to Manila, and then booked a separate flight from Manila to Cebu City. This typically results with long layovers but I have lounge access through my amex card so I kinda vibe with them. It did take me 50+ hours to get from the states to my final destination in the Philippines... I’ve used other credit cards to “travel hack” points and flights. Two of my other favorite cards with no annual fee are the Capitol One Venture and the Chase sapphire ! @Raychel • Travel & Life Abroad are my go to references for budget travel and their page is SO helpful!! #solofemaletraveler #budgettravel #solotravel #backpackasia
