@vancityvibe: High above West Vancouver, deep within the forests of Hollyburn Ridge, an almost century-old cabin community is still standing. The first cabins appeared during the 1920s, when adventurous skiers began turning the ridge into one of the North Shore’s earliest winter recreation destinations. The community eventually grew to nearly 300 cabins. Builders used local logs, discarded lumber from old logging flumes and materials carried up the mountain on their backs. Approximately 100 cabins remain today, many between 80 and 100 years old. Most have no road access and can be reached only through a network of forest trails. Visitors can explore the area on a 4.7-kilometre out-and-back route beginning near Cypress Mountain’s cross-country ski area. Depending on the season, the journey can be completed by hiking, snowshoeing or cross-country skiing. The cabins are privately occupied heritage structures, so visitors should remain on public trails, respect residents’ privacy and never enter or approach the buildings without permission. West Vancouver classifies this as a backcountry route intended for experienced hikers, skiers and snowshoers. Check current trail, weather and winter-access conditions before leaving. 📍 Hollyburn Cabin Area, West Vancouver 🥾 4.7-kilometre return trip 🏚️ Approximately 100 historic cabins 🌲 Most are accessible only by trail #Vancouver #HiddenGems #SecretPlaces #CoolThingsVancouver #VancityVibe
