Why?I see this at the gym all the time. You don’t have to put all that weight to see results.Only on that machine and to top it off some people don’t re-rack all those plates.

Head back, keep straight with spine. You looking up towards the sled likely caused this injury.

Next time, add as much weight as you can. Max out the machine and add a couple of 45s on top. Next, make sure you lock your knees. that way, it’ll keep tension off your ligaments and will definitely not hyper extend and cause injury.

God damn I love watching people ego lift junk weight on the leg press. Insane lockout btw, be careful.

Head forward. Creates an arc in your spine which increases pressure on your lower back. Head back, back straight.

Your feet are up too high.. it’s all about knee flexion. If your butts coming up and you’re pulling on the handles hard, then it’s too heavy for you. Lower weight, lower feet, more ROM. problem solved

I experienced this as well. What I do now is to use a “butt out” cue. As if doing a back squat.

I injured my lower back/SI area like this a few months ago. According to my PT, it was a combination of core and pelvic floor control as relates to pelvic stability and weak IT bands. Basically, at the bottom of the movement, my pelvis was tucking (even if it didn’t feel like it) and putting strain on my lower back. Also, I feel the need to agree with everyone else saying not to lock out on heavy leg press. It may be tolerable at lower weights but the moment you lock out, all of that weight shifts to your bones, ligaments, and joints rather than your muscle. This is physiologically well known with a small amount of research.

How often do you stretch your hips and glutes? Also do you do lower back exercises and hip strengthing workouts as well? If not if you do those things it’ll get your back feeling better in no time. Most likely your body has been overcompensating for either a weak lower back, weak glutes, weak hips, weak core etc and that can result in injury.
