@poppunkpress: Before it became the title track of her 1971 album, "Coat of Many Colors" was just a scribble on the back of a dry-cleaning receipt for a Porter Wagoner suit. Watching this performance from the wagon house hits hard today with the news of Dolly passing. It’s my favorite song of hers, but the tie is deeper than just the music. My grandma grew up in the exact same kind of poverty Dolly did, barely scraping by with a lot of siblings and a mother who sewed all of their clothes from scraps or old linens, that's where my grandma learned how to sew, she handed that gift down to me and I still have the quilts of many colors she made for me, I must now finish the one we started together, I gave up on it when my grandma passed in 2016. She sang this song constantly because it was her story, too. Dolly had a way of validating the hard parts of growing up with nothing and turning it into something beautiful.
