@adivunsolicited: There is no such thing as “British soul food.” Soul food was born from enslaved and post-emancipation Black people in the American South out of scraps, out of rations, out of survival. It was named in the 1960s alongside soul music as a political act. My family is Black American, Haitian, Dominican, and Bajan. My grandmother is from Millen, Georgia. My grandfather is from Boligee, Alabama. She would never cook griot or cou cou and called it soul food because it isn’t. That’s two diff islands food Same origin. Different histories. You don’t get to co-opt ours and put a British flag on it.
