@riirooted: If moms don’t feel safe enough to tell the truth about how they’re doing, how are we supposed to get them the support they actually need? We need to do better. #postpartum #maternalmentalhealth #postpartumcare #motherhood #matrescence
I was not sleeping. I was convinced if I slept she would die. If I showered she would die. If I wasn’t holding her she would die. I was also convinced if I left her and ran away she was better off that I was not deserving and I was a terrible mom (I had been a mom for a whole 2 weeks). My bestie told my husband who told her I need to get over it.

There is also the flip side where help is offered and feeling safe to accept the help.

I saw there is a mental health unit in the UK that actually admits moms with their babies. The Care team helps take care of Mom and the baby and keep the baby safe.

when I was in labor with my second, I told the doctors and nurses that they needed to help me like I was asking because I did not have the mental stamina for another insanely long labor and I wasn't okay. instead of helping me, they sent me home and I had a mental breakdown.. instead of helping me (mind you I was asking for pain management and for them to break my water which is the only thing that helped me in my first labor), they stuck a social worker on me before I was allowed to leave the hospital. the system is broken, it doesn't listen to women or understand. my midwife from my first delivery is a godsend, she stepped in when I came back to make sure I got the care that I needed.. thank God she was there
