Speaking as a complete outlier because I'm from the North East, both butter and mayo are valid, mayo just adds more flavor. However!! You have committed grilled cheese heresy!! It ceases to be a "grilled cheese" when you add meat. Also! The only acceptable tomato based dipping condiment for a grilled cheese is tomato soup, preferably made with milk rather than water. These are the rules! 😂😂

I hatttte mayo and only keep it on hand for grilled cheeses ever since an old roommate made me one with it. I was original raised on using crisco instead of butter though 😂
