@frugalkiwigal: What started as an experiment has now become just my life, and sticking to a $50/week (or $100/fortnight) budget has kind of surprised me! Partly because it hasn’t been as restrictive or depressing as I thought it would be, and also partly because it’s actually kind of fun to get extra creative in the kitchen and make meals out of “nothing” #nztiktok #groceriesonabudget #budgetmeals #christchurch #cheapmeals
my budget is $300 a week currently as a family of 4 and dont knkw how to get that down 😪😪

I can’t work and my groceries are realistically around 200 a week: I wish this was possible for me- I guess that’s one thing where needing to reduce spending isn’t possible- it’s something I never thought of until I got sick! Due to medical reasons, and severe allergies, I realistically would spend 200 a week in order to have meals and snacks (the snacks are where it becomes expensive with allergies)- made more complicated because most of the time, my paralysed stomach can only handle things like snacks- including baby food items (ridiculous prices). And yet, as I am so unwell, I am no longer able to work. And while my income is so small, being chronically ill and forced to live on a benefit is almost impossible- quite a catch 22. So, I can no longer eat much outside of a few allergy friendly staples on repeat. I struggle a lot because I feel, that in this situation- I am relatively powerless.

yes to versatile ingredients! I use split red lentils to bolster up things like bolognaise and chilli. can't tell and ypu can double the volume for literally cents. Eating in season is also a great tip.

I'm still finding things in my pantry and prioritising using them up. then deciding if they need to be replaced, seeing as I'd forgotten they were there. one is a jar of millet. I'm gluten free for 17 years now, but we ate millet sometimes in my childhood so it's a useful basic.

for me averaging $160 fortnightly for just me 😆 I do need and can cut down on some things(why Im following you for inspiration) but I also just quit smoking and got dentures so food is what ever I want and also what I can eat. I don't really do takeaways as I prefer homemade especially burgers.

My budget is $200 per week but it’s accumulating. I’d say for my partner and I we spend on average $140-160 per week which is still quite low but I’m the same and cook 90% from scratch. I do like convenience but this is only on lower cost things like a maggi sachet vs say buying a few packets of biscuits for lunches/desserts
