1000 it goes along with your brain only needing to recognize some of the words and put them into context without actually reading every word. They could have also put misspelled words and your brain will recognize the correct word

I could read single words up to level 7 and understand it. The last level seemed easier to read with multiple words together.

When I was young I drank books like water. I caught myself picking out key words, and skipping over the rest at the higher rates. At the highest rates I plucked very few, requiring me to guess context. Speed reading teaches scanning. It's handy on a first pass, but I want to fully understand what I read.

1000! trick is to relax your eyes and let your brain absorb, most people can read fast and just don't realize it. this is just single words you can read faster when it's paragraphs so not a great test to measure you personal reading speed
