But as you improve, swimming with straight arms limits your ability to hold the water and generate propulsion. Let’s fix that. ✅ S-shaped backstroke pull Backstroke starts with body rotation. 1️⃣ Rotate your body onto the side 2️⃣ Let the shoulder follow the rotation 3️⃣ Start catching the water 4️⃣ Bend the elbow naturally 5️⃣ Press the water and accelerate past the hip 💡 The hand doesn’t travel in a perfectly straight line. It follows a smooth S-shaped path while the body rotates from side to side. This allows you to use your hand and forearm together instead of just pulling with the arm. What changes: • More propulsion • Better feel of the water • Less stress on the shoulders • Easier rotation • Faster swimming with less effort 💡 Simple cue: Rotate → catch → bend → press → finish Your goal is not to pull harder. *In the video, I turn my head toward the camera to make sure I’m staying in the frame and to show the movement more clearly.
