@ashley___497: When you are alone, reading, studying or speaking Czech, you think you are getting so much better because you do everything at your pace. You make mistakes alone, in your house . In real life situations, at the shop, on phone calls, etc, it’s different because locals speak faster (atleast from my perspective). You have to process the information, translate it quickly to Czech and make a response in a very short space of time. My CPU .. sometimes glitches and I make half sentences like in this case . I cut the entire sentence from “Kolik minut před příjezdem?” to “kolik minut” 🤣🤣😄. I really thought he’d understand so when he switched me to English, I wanted to hear his feedback . Was I that hard to understand? 🤣. He was so nice to explain a bit so I take that feedback seriously. . . . . #czechlanguage #learningczech #czech #czechforbeginners #fyp

Like it's understandable. But it might just be comfortable for a person who struggles to speak in a different language. Also, you might say "za jak dlouho tu budete" or "kdy dorazíte". There is a lot of options to formulate this question than "kolik minut do příjezdu"

You didn’t say anything wrong. Kolik minut is perfectly fine. I think he just heard your accent and switched to English to make it easier for you. I’ve done that a few times myself. Maybe I shouldn’t? Would you have preferred if he had continued the conversation in Czech?

You said it correctly! Good job! ♥️I always ask if the person wants to switch if it's easier, it could be accent or just the not super fast reaction. I do the same to German tourist when they ask in English but with name of the place in German 😁

sometimes its hard for us to talk to foreigners in czech because we're afraid they wont understand us or go too fast and dont want them to feel uncomfortable - někdy je pro nás těžké mluvit s cizinci český protože se bojíme že nám nebudou rozumět nebo budeme mluvit moc rychle a nechceme aby se cítili nepříjemně 🙈
