Why is
Why is "cheating" in workout form bad? Among other reasons, it often makes the exercise easier, so we're not doing the work we may think we are. Our body is trying to find ways to make the exercise for us. That's why it can feel intuitive to cheat on some exercise forms. Surprisingly, this isn't *always* bad for us other than reducing load. For example, having your hips lower or higher in a pushup might make it look uglier, but it's not inherently a bad movement - it just might make the pushup reps easier. (yes you could argue there's some extra lower back pressure, but this doesn't bother everyone. Plus, bending back isn't inherent bad either when scaled - like in bridge exercises). On the other hand, some types of "bad form" are potentially dangerous if you suddenly change your form and it make the exercise harder on yourself. For example, if you bend forward excessively during squats, this isn't inherently bad. However, if you suddenly try to straighten up during a heavy lift, your knees may experience much more force than they're used to - even at the same weight. This is why consistent form is important. The TLDR is that if you're someone who doesn't like strict form, consider adding strict form reps at the beginning of your sets. This will help you build control through your full range of motion. Then you can add some more casual reps at the end. However, you don't have to do this if you're not already doing it. One could argue that you're pushing a bit harder towards failure, but it likely isn't driving that much extra benefit. Do what works for you. Have a wonderful day! #hybridcalisthenics
