@newsroom09: 26/8/2026 AN ESCAPEE FROM LAWFUL CUSTODY ALLEGEDLY BEATEN BY MOB DIES AFTER RESCUE BY POLICE, KASSANDA POLICE TAKES ON INVESTIGATIONS. By cosmas ofumbi kyankwanzi Pilice have reporyed the death of a 30 years old who was beaten by mob leading to his death. According to police spokesperson ss lameck kigozi, On the 23/08/2026, Kasumba Derrick alias Kalevu aged 30 years while in Police custody charged with an offence of Burglary and theft at Manyogaseka subcounty Police station vide SD Ref 05/17/06/2026 waiting for charges to be sanction against him. At 09:00 hours, he fled away from lawful custody as he was by accompanied to the toilet to ease himself. PC Nalyanya Aaron who was taking guard of him failed to stop him. A report of escape from Lawful custody was registered vide SD Ref 04/23/08/2026 and the complainant was informed about this development. At around 10: 00hours, information was received on phone by HCM Ogwang Emmanuel the officer in charge that the suspect had been intercepted by a mob in Lwenyange village and was being assaulted. Poluce said He instructed PC Nalyanya Aaron to quickly go and re- arrest the suspect. The constable using a Boda boda rushed to the seen to rescue and re arrest the suspect. He found a mob still assaulting the suspect and on seeing him, the mob fled away. The constable bundled the suspect victim on the motorcycle and rod him back to the station. On reaching the station his condition deteriorated, he could not stand by himself. He was immediately evacuated to Kyansaswa HC 3 for medical attention. It's absurd that 40 minutes after his arrival, he was pronounced dead. A case of murder by mob was registered. The body was conveyed to mityana general hospital for Postmortem. Efforts to identify suspects in a mob which assaulted the deceased are on going. Investigations into the matter are actively on going. The public is cautioned on taking law into their own hands. Suspects in lawful custody should always resist the temptation of escape from Lawful custody because it carries penal reprisal in addition to the the charge the suspect is already facing.
