If I wanted to hit my first $100,000 by 35 - here's what I'd do: Before anything: we need to understand the math of how to get there. The ideal amount of time in order to hit a $100K relatively easily is about 7-10 years. That's because at a salary of $50,000 a year, if you can save $7500 (or 15%) and invest it - you're able to hit $100K in about 9 years. *assuming a 8% average return - the average of the S&P 500. So here are the actionable steps: 1. Increase Savings Rate as MUCH as you can. Minimum 15% savings, and no upper bound to your maximum. Because the majority of getting to your first $100K comes from saving, and not investing. 2. Open a Roth IRA The contribution limit is $7,500 per year. If you’re able to automate $625 a month into an ETF like VOO or VTI which are S&P 500 and Total Market ETFs respectively, not only will you hit that $100k, but any investment gains in a Roth IRA will be tax free later on. 3. Avoid High Interest Rate Debt Any debt that has an interest rate higher than 8-10% means that your dollars, in order to be the most financially optimal, need to be prioritized towards debt. And if they’re prioritized towards debt, well they aren’t moving you toward your $100K number. So stay away if you can. I hope this helps and you hit your first $100K. Any questions? Let me know below. #EduTok #TikTokLearningCampaign #LearnOnTikTok
