I’m not on Big’s side, but for some reason people in the comments think he didn’t want to marry her at all, when it’s absolutely clear that at this point in their relationship he was afraid of messing things up. He’d already had two marriages that didn’t work out and now he was happy with the woman he loved, so Miranda’s words played directly into his fear of losing his partner because of marriage. And if Carrie had listened to him and hadn’t acted like the wedding was only about the bride, instead of recognizing that both partners should feel comfortable with it, this wouldn’t have happened. It doesn’t change the fact that he’s generally wishy-washy, I don’t like him and I don’t understand her hyperfixation on someone so emotionally immature. But she was also incredibly selfish and didn’t give a shit about her partner’s feelings while he was literally building her the closet of her dreams.
