@danmalonemoney: Finally. Deemed disposal might actually be on its way out 🚨 Minister Robert Troy just dropped a massive update: the Government is planning to address deemed disposal in the upcoming Budget ahead of launching new personal investment accounts. In this own words, the rule is “from a bygone era”. Here’s why this is a potential gamechanger: ✅ Deemed Disposal Gone: the 8-year mandatory tax hit on paper gains could finally be scraped, ending a massive administrative and compounding nightmare for Irish retail investors ✅ Fairer Tax Rates: aligning the fund exit tax rate (currently 38%) with the standard 33% Capital Gains Tax (CGT) rate ✅ Potential Loss Relief: opening up the door for loss relief on ETFs (fingers crossed) This is what I’ve been pushing for since 2020. There’s €170bn sitting in Irish deposit accounts earning practically zero. Shifting that cash into accessible ETF investments builds real long-term wealth for people and generates vastly more tax revenue for the State. Especially with a €300bn pension shortfall looming over the country 😬 ⚠️ The Flipside: equalising tax rules could mean higher tax on ETF dividends or changes to accumulating fund treatment, but removing deemed disposal itself would be a monumental win for personal finance in Ireland. What are your thoughts? Is this the change you’ve been waiting for, or are you holding your breath until Budget day? Drop your take in the comments 👇
Needs to be pulled completely, kills the compounding effect

"This government is delighted to have done away with the antiquated deemed disposal on investments. We are now introducing the 'proposed disposal' tax instead"

They will probably just reduce the rate, they should instead get rid of DD.

Deemed disposal is a scam, you can't be taxed before you even sell and taxed again on gains, there's tax on tax on tax

Dave's Thoughts :
Imagine having a system in place that put people off from investing. It's totally bizarre. It's the exact opposite of what you need to do as an economy so people can look after themselves at retirement. To change it now is so late and far behind I can't get my head around it. Hopefully things will get better here and they cop on for once.
