I think we should normalise touch ups! I always say to customers that it’s never a bother, even the smallest thing is worth touching up. But at the same time we need to stress that it will only be free withing the first few months. I’ve had a customer arguing that I shouldn’t charge them for a touch up on a tattoo I did 3 years ago - the tattoo was just aging it wasn’t healed bad, but because I’ve said to them ‘touch ups are free’ they were being difficult because I’ve not specified for how long it’s free.

Lady Bard :
I do free touch’s up but you have to let me know within 6 weeks (but you don’t have to book within that time) just so people are on my radar so I can make sure to get you in. However, hands, neck, face or feet have to pay a £30 set up free for touch ups because of the wear and tear nature of the area, but I do tell people this before they book for those areas! Communication is key 💖 x

Out of curiosity, if it was good enough wouldn’t have Nick not needed a touchup unless it was like 10 years old or something? X

I’ve recently just changed my policy to 1 free touch up within the first 6 months as I had a few people taking the piddle (white highlights touch up after a year and wanted me to do it multiple times) but charging within the first couple months for one touch up is insane behaviour!!🫠🫠

I offer a free touch up, but if the client hasn’t followed the aftercare information, I will charge them a minimum set up fee.

Agreed touch ups should be free, I’ve always said and done that for years now. But what do you do if the client doesn’t turn up for their touch up appointment?

First time round ABSOLUTELY (unless they’ve picked it and I can tell) but second time absolutely not, especially if it’s realism. Of course if they’re booked in for another session anyway I’ll just touch up work if they ever needed!

My artists allows touch ups for a whole 6 months. Luckily I’ve never needed a touch up but I think 6 months is very generous

To be fair, if I got tattoo and didn’t follow after care and that’s why it needed touch up, I’d expect my artist to charge me

My policy is touch ups are free after 1 month of healing and then within 6 months, book in for another after 6 months and it’s still free and I’ll do it then

Should they really be asking for a touch up after a week and a half the tattoo probably isn’t fully healed

The shop I went to for a couple of mine, go over the tattoo once for free, then you pay everytime after that.

I charge bare minimum for the tattoos so you pay for touch ups unless your getting another tattoo then it’s free, i either charge every time to cover for a touch up or charge when it’s needed.

When I was on holiday got a tattoo and was offered a free touch up within 4 weeks o think it was. They didn’t know I was on holidays. It was a fine line tattoo. Absolutely a touch up should be free if it’s within a specific time frame
