@drsarahashton: Why do some people enjoy being dominant in the bedroom? Neurologically, being in a dominant position may heighten attention and focus. We might become particularly attuned to another person’s responses, as well as our own, and anticipation and positive feedback from another person can engage reward systems and contribute to arousal. Psychologically, domination can create experiences of power, autonomy, competence, appreciation or self-worth. It might also give us permission to access parts of ourselves that we don’t usually express, such as being more assertive, powerful or directive. For some people, domination may also connect with previous experiences or emotional themes around power, control, vulnerability or pleasure. Within a safe and consensual context, it can offer a different way of engaging with these experiences. Over time, experiences of power, control, particular roles or responses from another person can also become associated with arousal through learning and repetition. Domination can be about much more than simply wanting control. It’s another example of the complex ways our brains, bodies, relationships and experiences can come together to create pleasure.#SexualHealth #Psychology #neuroscience #Relationships #sex

I am recovering from trauma (2yr EMDR) and coercive control. The cross over to this stuff is interesting to me.
